Friday Transportation Seminars at Portland State University have been a tradition since 2000. We've opened up PSU Transportation Seminars to other days of the week, but the format is the same: Feel free to bring your lunch! If you can't join us in person, you can always watch online via Zoom.

    THE TOPIC

    Oregon has adopted policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the energy and transportation sectors. This presentation will provide some background on these policy frameworks and explore how these policies impact transportation fuels and the transportation sector more broadly.

    KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

    • Develop a general or better understanding of Oregon's energy and climate policy mechanisms and the interplay between them;
    • Understand how Oregon's policies impact the transportation sector;
    • Understand some of the costs, benefits, and other implications for consumers and businesses; and
    • Gain an understanding of some of the legal and regulatory constraints affecting transportation decarbonization.

    SPEAKER

    Amy Schlusser, Climate Policy Lead, Oregon Department of Energy

    Amy Schlusser is the climate policy team lead for the Oregon Department of Energy. She previously served as the agency’s senior clean energy policy analyst. Prior to joining the agency in October 2022, Amy worked as a staff attorney with the Green Energy Institute at Lewis & Clark Law School. She has more than a decade of experience working with policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks relating to renewable energy, climate change, and transportation. Her work has largely focused on identifying effective and equitable policy pathways to quickly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate a just and equitable transition to a clean and renewable energy system. Amy has authored multiple legal and policy analyses on a variety of topics related to energy and climate change, and she has extensive experience working with policymakers, regulators, advocates, and other interested parties on initiatives to advance a just and equitable energy transition.

    In November 2021, Amy was appointed to the Oregon Environmental Quality Commission, the policy and rulemaking board for the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

    Amy received her J.D. cum laude and her LL.M. summa cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School’s Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Law program. She received her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.
