BikePed Portal, the national non-motorized count data archive housed at Portland State University (PSU), provides a centralized standard bicycle and pedestrian count database which includes automated and manual counts from across the country. BikePed portal, as a paid service, also offers a suite of custom tools and products – with more features being developed all the time.
The newest feature added to BikePed Portal is Explore Plus, a robust dashboard that allows users to conduct a wide range of data analyses.

How Can BikePed Portal Help Transportation Practitioners?
Reliable non-motorized traffic data helps jurisdictions make informed decisions about where to invest in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. BikePed Portal makes it easier for transportation planners and engineers to access bicycle and pedestrian data that might otherwise be scattered across multiple jurisdictions, and provides tools for analyzing that data. Having standardized, consolidated data in one place makes it easier than ever to find out where, and how many, people are walking and biking.
Cities and agencies interested in partnering with us to improve transportation data access should reach out to our team at bikepedportal@pdx.edu. We are always interested in adding more nonmotorized data.
We accept data in multiple formats (including EcoCounter API, TrafX, manual, turning movement), and convert it all into a standardized format. We offer quality control, quality assurance, and can create custom tools and dashboards to meet an agency's needs. Learn about the services that BikePed Portal offers.
Background
Established in 2015 by researchers at PSU's Transportation Research and Education Center (TREC), BikePed Portal has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade.
Basem Elazzabi is the head of programming and development for both BikePed Portal and also PORTAL, the publicly available transportation data lake representing the Portland, OR - Vancouver, WA metropolitan region. He and Tammy Lee, TREC's Transportation Data Program Manager, are always adding new features and data to The Portals. Read about the development of BikePed Portal over time, or watch a 2023 seminar with Elazzabi and Lee celebrating PORTAL's 20th anniversary to learn more.
Portland State University's Transportation Research and Education Center (TREC) is a multidisciplinary hub for all things transportation. We are home to the Initiative for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation (IBPI), the data programs PORTAL and BikePed Portal, the Better Block PSU program, and PSU's membership in PacTrans, the Pacific Northwest Transportation Consortium. Our continuing goal is to produce impactful research and tools for transportation decision makers, expand the diversity and capacity of the workforce, and engage students and professionals through education, seminars, and participation in research. To get updates about what's happening at TREC, sign up for our monthly newsletter or follow us on social media.
